Skien is experiencing exceptionally high energy development activity, anchored by a major WS Computing data center campus at Gromstul (480 MW in queue) and a wave of solar energy applications across both Rød and Grenland substations. Significant grid infrastructure investment is underway, including a new Gromstul switching station, expansion of Rød switching station, and Statnett's planned 420 kV upgrade through the Grenland corridor. In the last 30 days, Fossefall AS withdrew its 1 MW data center consumption reservation at Grenland TRA, and Pyur Energy AS had its solar capacity at Grenland TRA reduced from 71 MW to 51 MW. Earlier withdrawals from INOVYN Norge and INEOS (totalling ~127 MW of legacy industrial consumption) indicate that traditional Grenland heavy industry has been stepping back from the grid queue, partially offsetting the surge in new technology and renewable applications.
